Why Sparky QC

Built by QA/QC — not guessed at by developers.

Electrical turnover fails on the same things every time: a megger reading with no acceptance criterion written beside it, a torque value with no calibrated wrench behind it, a loop signed off at zero and span but never checked in between, and a cable schedule that stopped matching the field somewhere around the second revision. None of that is caught by better filing. It is caught by recording the test and the thing that makes the test mean something in the same place, at the same time. That is the whole design here — built for the small and mid-size electrical contractor who has to hand over a defensible package, not retrofitted from generic project management software.

Built For The Field

From a single MCC to a full substation energization.

Whatever the jobsite, Sparky QC keeps every cable, termination, and test traceable — the same document control, project after project.

Quality Control

A document control system, not a folder of PDFs.

Every cable, termination, and test recorded against the circuit it belongs to — so traceability is a query, not an afternoon of digging.

Cable Schedule

From, to, type, size, voltage class and routing — the spine every other record on the job keys off, worked down from scheduled to pulled to terminated to tested.

Terminations & Torque

Every landing with its lug, the torque applied against the value specified, and the calibrated wrench that produced it. A loose termination is the most common failure in service.

Insulation Resistance

Megger readings per phase combination, not averaged into one figure that hides a bad leg — with test voltage, temperature correction, DAR and PI, and the acceptance criterion recorded beside the reading.

Loop Checks

Injected and observed at 0, 50 and 100 percent against the DCS or PLC. A loop can be right at zero and span and still be non-linear in between — which is exactly what a single-point check misses.

Relay & Protection Testing

Settings, injection results and measured trip time, recorded as-found as well as as-left — because as-found is the evidence for what the plant was actually protected by.

Grounding & Bonding

Grid, rods, risers and bonds with connection type and whether it was inspected before backfill, plus fall-of-potential and clamp-on resistance results against the criterion.

Qualifications & Calibration

Licences, NFPA 70E and qualified-person status alongside test instrument calibration — an out-of-cal megger invalidates every reading it produced, so the audit treats it as blocking.

Non-Conformances

Root cause and corrective action documented per NCR, through to closure, each printing as its own summary sheet.

Project Turnover

The job book builds itself.

Everything logged during the job compiles into the handover package — no re-typing, no chasing paperwork the week it is due.

Turnover Job Book

One click compiles every section into a cover-paged, indexed document on true letter pages — print to PDF, or export with attachments merged in.

Drawing Markup & Callouts

Multi-page PDF redlining on one-lines, schematics and panel layouts, with a cable-number callout tool — draggable and colour-coded.

Panels & Circuit Schedules

Panelboards, switchgear and MCCs with ratings, feed source and arc flash labelling — each carrying its own breaker-by-breaker schedule rather than a separate list to keep in step.

Project-Wide Search

Search every record in a project — including the filenames of attached documents. The fastest way to find one megger report out of hundreds.

Snapshots & CSV Export

Every table exports to Excel-ready CSV, and a timestamped snapshot downloads every record in a project as a copy you own outright.

AI Document Pre-Fill

Read a scanned test report, calibration certificate or 70E card and the fields fill in for you to check — you confirm every value before it saves. It never judges whether a document passes.

Compliance

Know what would fail a review before the reviewer does.

Expiring qualifications, instruments out of calibration, open non-conformances and missing test reports surface while there is still time to fix them.

Audit View

Every gap that would fail a turnover review — expired qualifications, instruments out of calibration, open NCRs, unanswered RFIs, test records missing their report — with a printable report.

Document Register

Specifications, installation and test procedures tracked by revision, type and status — each carrying the governing code the work is judged against.

One-Calls & Permits

811 tickets for duct bank and ground grid work, plus energized-work and LOTO permits, with expiry tracking and an expiring-soon banner.

Team Permissions

Per-person rights to create and delete, with read-only auditor seats for clients and third-party inspectors — free, however many you invite.

Subcontractors

Subcontractor contracts and insurance certificates held against the project they worked on.

Punch List & RFIs

Items categorised by what blocks energization, what blocks turnover and what can follow — closed out with an automatic sign-off stamp, with RFIs tracked to a response.

Trusted By

Electrical contractors who run their QA/QC on Sparky QC.

Resources

Everything you need to run a turnover package properly.

Some of it is inside the app already, some of it is being written. Nothing here is gated behind a sales call, and nothing is listed before it exists.

User Guide

The full feature map, step-by-step walkthroughs for recording a megger test, proving a loop end to end, redlining a drawing and compiling a job book, plus a troubleshooting section. Generated from the app itself, so it cannot drift out of date. Printable to PDF.

What Goes in a Turnover Package

Every section of a complete electrical turnover package walked through on a worked example, and the cross-checks that get a package sent back — an instrument out of calibration, a test with no acceptance criterion, a loop signed off at two points.

FAQs

The questions we actually get asked.

Getting started
Do I need to install anything?

No. Sparky QC runs in a browser — desktop, tablet, or phone. There is nothing to install, no IT ticket, and no server to maintain.

Can I bring in records I already have?

Yes. The installation tabs — cable schedule, cable pulls, terminations, conduit, tray, grounding and telecom — take a CSV straight off the engineer’s spreadsheet, and every tab has a Download template so you can see the columns first. Save as CSV from Excel; column order does not matter, unrecognised columns are ignored, and nothing is written until you have seen exactly what will be created. Drawings, certificates and reports upload as PDFs or photos, and AI pre-fill can read a scanned certificate and fill the form for you to check.

Do I have to use every tab?

No. Sparky QC covers power distribution, controls, instrumentation and commissioning scopes. Use the tabs your job needs and ignore the rest — empty sections are simply left out of the job book.

Your data
Who can see my documents?

Only you and the people you invite. Access is enforced by the database itself, not by hiding buttons — a user with no relationship to a project cannot read or write to it even through the API.

Can I get my records out?

Yes, at any time and without asking us. Every table exports to CSV, and Save Snapshot downloads every record in a project as a single timestamped file you own outright, independent of the app or your account.

Worth taking one at project milestones regardless.

What happens to my data if I stop paying?

Your records remain available for a retention period after cancellation so you can export anything you need, and Save Snapshot works right up to the end. Take a snapshot before you cancel and you keep a complete copy whatever happens.

Is my data used to train AI?

No. AI is only involved when you explicitly choose Read from document, and then only to fill that one form. Your records are not used to train anything.

Compliance
Does Sparky QC make my project compliant?

No, and be wary of anything that claims otherwise. Sparky QC organises, tracks, and compiles your records so nothing goes missing and gaps surface early. Whether the work meets code is determined by your procedures, your inspectors, and the governing specification — not by software.

Does the AI check my documents?

It reads them and fills in the form; it does not verify or approve anything. You confirm every value before it saves. We deliberately do not have software assert that a certificate is valid — that judgement belongs to a qualified person, and a QA/QC record is a legal document.

Can an auditor or client see the project?

Yes. Invite them as an auditor and they can read and export everything but change nothing — enforced in the database. Auditor seats are free, however many you invite.

In the field
Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Records can be entered and photos attached from a tablet or phone in the field, which is where most test results are actually written down.

What if there is no signal?

Sparky QC needs a connection to save records. On a site with no coverage, take photos and write readings down as normal, and enter them when you are back in range — nothing is lost, but nothing saves offline eithef — and upload when you are back in range.

Billing
What counts as a user?

Anyone who has accepted an invitation to your company account. Pending invitations are never charged, and read-only auditor seats are always free.

What if someone leaves mid-month?

Remove them and the seat is credited back, prorated. Adding someone mid-month is charged the same way.

Can I cancel any time?

Yes, from Billing in the app. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for — you keep full access until then and are not charged again.

Full terms are in our refund and cancellation policy.

Do you store my card details?

Never. Payment pages are hosted by Stripe; nothing sensitive touches Sparky QC.

About Us

Built for the contractor who still has to hand the book over.

The software most contractors are offered is either a spreadsheet with ambitions or an enterprise platform priced for a general contractor. Sparky QC is built for the small and mid-size electrical contractor in between — the people who have to produce the same defensible documentation with a fraction of the overhead.

Every feature here exists because it was needed on a job, not because it demoed well. The blank forms are the ones crews already fill in by hand. The job book prints as a binder — cover, spine labels, tabbed dividers, index — because that is how a turnover package is actually handed over.

What it will not do is decide anything for you. It reads a document; it does not approve one. It records a classification; it does not pick one. Whether a certificate is acceptable, or a non-conformance is major, stays your call and stays on your record.
